چکیده

A brightness of 76% (initially 57%) was reached with a charge of 4.5% hydrogen peroxide based on thermomechanical pulp in 10 min with microwave heating, compared to 45 min with water-bath heating. The maximum brightness attained with water-bath heating (78%) was nearly one point higher than that obtained with microwave heating, albeit after twice the time (120 min vs. 60 min). Under similar conditions (70°C, 60min, 4.5% H202), a higherbrightness (78.2%) was obtained with a sodium hydroxide-to-hydrogen peroxide ratio of 0.97 compared to that (76.5%) obtained when a sodium hydroxide-to-hydrogen peroxide ratio of 0.73 was used. Pulp brightness did not increase proportionately with peroxide consumption. The brightness gain (percent) per percent of peroxide consumed was higher at 10% than at 20% consistency. In rapid high-temperature bleaching using microwave heating, excellent results were obtained without applying microwave energy to the pulp for the entire bleaching time by keeping the heated pulp in a thermos.

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp

A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...

Comparative study on hydrogen peroxide bleaching of soda-organosolv and Kraft rice straw pulps

Rice straw was cooked with three levels of alkali content (12, 14 and 16%) in cooking liquor by soda-organosolv (ethanol, diethylene glycol, dimethyl formamide) process. The effect of alkali addition on yield, kappa number, brightness and viscosity of organosolv unbleached pulps was studied. The TCF bleachability of these organosolv pulps and kraft pulp was carried out using a simple three stag...

Bleach boosting and direct brightening by multiple xylanase treatments during peroxide bleaching of kraft pulps.

The effects of multiple xylanase treatments were assessed during the peroxide bleaching of three pulps: Douglas-fir (kraft); Western hemlock (oxygen delignified kraft); and trembling Aspen (kraft). The addition of a xylanase treatment stage, either before or after the peroxide bleaching stage(s), resulted in the enhanced brightening of all pulps. A higher brightness was achieved using two enzym...

Improvement of Tcf Bleaching of Olive Tree Pruning Residue Pulp by Addition of a Laccase And/or Xylanase Pre-treatment

This study aimed at assessing the biobleachability of soda pulps obtained from olive tree pruning residue. The enzymatic (LMS) pretreatment was applied prior to a simple totally chlorine free (TCF) bleaching sequence, consisting of an alkaline extraction and a hydrogen peroxide stage. Additionally, the effect of adding xylanase jointly with or prior to LMS was evaluated. All of these enzymatic ...
